Technique Tuesday: November 4, 2008

Hey there Ya’ll,

We just wanted to send everyone a note to say that there is not going to be a release this week. We are working on some good ones though, which will be coming out in the weeks to follow. You might even say some of the lessons are “Egg-cellent”.

Besides, we know that today is a big day in the United States and many people will be standing in line to vote and focusing on the election. Don’t worry though – we aren’t going to leave all of you high and dry. Here is a yummy video recipe for Chicken Parmigiana.

Golden pieces of lightly breaded chicken breast are baked in a delicious homemade tomato sauce and topped with mozzarella cheese. Oh so good, especially when served with Spaghetti Aglio e Olio.

P.S. – We have reviewed the homework from last week and it has come down to two finalists. They were picked based on the following: the amount of techniques used, whether or not those techniques were used properly and their recipes (photos, steps, and method description).

Pan Tossing Winner

Congratulations to scullen from New Zealand! He is the official winner of Rouxbe’s “So You Think You Can Toss?” pan-tossing competition.

Maybe you pride yourself on just how good you are at pan tossing. Why don’t you enter our contest and show us your best moves!

Contestants will be judged on the:

  • most creative pan toss
  • most unique location
  • funniest video

Name that Cooking Sound?

As you may or may not know, cooking sounds are important indicators in cooking. The sound that an ingredient makes when it hits a frying pan can tell you right away if the pan is at the right temperature.

To become a great cook… you need to begin noticing what cooking ‘sounds’ like. To get you thinking about this, let’s see who can name the following sound:

Bragging rights are on the table. Who’s up with a guess? First one to guess the sound gets a Annual Premium Membership to Rouxbe.

Thanks for playing the game….. and even though John Principe had three guesses, we’re happy to say that he picked the correct sound. It is from this recipe:

Sun-dried Tomato Sauce

And it is a “food mill” used to process the tomatoes. The preview shows the device and the full recipe will highlight the sound that was taken as is from the video.
