The Full 21 – Power Cookies
These cookies are my take on the Power Cookies from Capers, a local community market here in Vancouver…you might also know them as Whole Foods :-) I once tried to get the recipe, but there was no way they were going to give it up…so off to the kitchen I went. I think I made about 10 batches of cookies before I found something that I was happy with. In fact, some say these are even better than “their” cookies…but I’ll let you be the judge.
Because they are full of nuts and seeds, I would venture to say that they are not a “diet” cookie. I usually make them and pack them along for the ride whenever we do something outdoorsy…like a hike or a long walk.
I have made these a few times for a running group that I am lucky enough to be a part of and I can honestly say that no one seems to be worried about a few extra calories or a bit of chocolate. We are all currently, training for the BMO half marathon in Vancouver, which btw I like to call the “FULL 21″ because who wants to do 1/2 of anything; right? Hence the name of the cookies.
Hope you enjoy them. Here is a link to the full text recipe for these nutty little energy-boosting cookies.
Ciao for now
dawn
UPDATE: I am currently training for my first marathon. I figured since I turned 42 years old this year, it would be a good time to run 42 kms :-) So now I guess these do not necessarily need to be called “The Full 21″ anymore!

These cookies look amazing and powerful. So…are you making these often for your running group? That might be the best reason someone could use to persuade anyone to join that running group. Way to go!
Well Dawn we also are training for the Jonny Miles 1/2 marathon out here on the east coast of Canada and we have been looking for a cookie that can support our group! We might have just found it, thanks for the heads up on this little disc of delight!
I think I’ll make these to power me through the last few weeks of training for the Eugene Marathon. I love the Vancouver race. Have a great run on the 1st! By the way, I totally agree with it being a full 21K!
This looks like a fabulous cookie and a way to get a lot of nutrition into my finicky nephew. He will not eat many heathy foods, but a cookie ALWAYS gets eaten. I dislike being sneaky, but it is for his well being. Sort of. And, of course, I will just have to test it since other comments have been so positive.
Daniela – indeed these cookies would be a good way to persuade someone to join a running grou…that and the fact that they are a pretty stellar group of peeps :-)
Charlie – nice work on the Johnny Miles 1/2 marathon…but I do think you should start calling it “The Full 21″. Tell Kirstie that I think of often on my runs and I wish she was there by my side.
Carol – Eugene Marathon, wow!! You go girl. I am not sure if I am build for marathons but perhaps one day I might think differently. Good luck!!
Julie – these cookies are delish, but to be honest they are not the most healthy cookie (or at least not low fat)…but something tells me you already know that because you are one smart cookie yourself.
Enjoy everyone and from now on when I eat these cookies I will think of you as well.
We used to call these gorp cookies in the seventies. Very delicious cookie version of trail mix. How can they not be good with all that wonderfull stuff inside! They were purported to be healthy, but I developed my own doubts on that.
Nice!
These look great!
My girlfriend just made a batch of some peanut butter protein cookies . . . I think that these look even better (I won’t tell her that quite yet!)
Can’t wait for us to try ‘em.
Thanks,
Tushar
Hi Dawn,
Great recipe, and trust you to come up with something I have been looking for. My uncle is recovering from cancer of the oesophagus and no longer, well, has one! What’s left of his stomach has been brought up to form a pipe. He needs a LOT of calories, in small amounts, to a) get enough to help his body heal and b) keep his weight up. He’s a right royal pain in the back side. Tell him to do one thing and he’ll do the opposite. He’s been told not to drink tea because it’s virtually calorie free and fills him up…. so that’s his drink of choice! He’s got high cholesterol so whilst we need to feed him rich food it needs to be healthy – very demanding! This sounds perfect, healthy fats, fibre. I found a list online recently of weight gaining healthy foods and most of them are in your cookies! AND, he loves biscuits. I’m gonna make a batch and send them back to Ireland for him :) Thank you!!
That’s great! I hope he enjoys them. Take care and best of luck with everything. Cheers!
