American Culinary Federation Education Foundation Recognizes Rouxbe Online Cooking School!

by

Rouxbe Cooking school has been recognized for quality education by the American Culinary Federation Education Foundation – marking a giant step forward for Rouxbe by acknowledging the important role that a quality online program has in today’s culinary training and educational markets.

In addition to offering culinary instruction for home cooks and cooks training for the culinary industry, Rouxbe also offers two unique professional certification courses as a way to gain a solid foundation in essential culinary techniques for cooks at all levels. These 6 month online courses can be completed during spare time, making them the perfect complement to those with busy schedules. They include hundreds of instructional training videos and recipes, as well as live events, adaptive learning assessments, and practice activities that are graded by Rouxbe faculty.

Rouxbe’s Professional Cook Certification Course is geared towards aspiring cooks, culinary students, those already working in the food and culinary industry, or for anyone who seeks an intensive immersion in culinary skill and knowledge development. Over the past few years, dozens of professional food and hospitality clients have adopted Rouxbe’s platform for use in their internal training programs, including the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in NYC.

Rouxbe’s Professional Plant-Based Certification Course is for aspiring plant-based cooks, or anyone who seeks an intensive immersion in culinary skill and knowledge development with plant-based cuisine.

“Our professional certification programs have been incredibly well received by our students and partners” said Joe Girard, co-founder and CEO of Rouxbe, “Our platform is designed to provide a much more economical option for aspiring cooks who seek to secure quality employment while they learn, rather than being laden with excessive student loan debt, then trying to find work to pay it off.”

Rouxbe Announces Wellness Advisory Board!

by

Friday, November 8, 2013, Vancouver, B.C.

The day food and cooking is paired with science and nutrition.

Starting back in 2005, we at Rouxbe had a dream – a dream to build and deliver a world-class, cost-effective and approachable cooking solution that will transform lives across the planet through food and cooking. Since then we’ve invested several million dollars in the world’s largest inventory of premium instructional cooking content. We’ve built a powerful teaching platform. We’ve attracted over 120,000 students from 180 countries. All this work was just a prelude to the feature presentation – a product and service that will educate and empower anyone, of any age, to cook their way to better health.

Today we take a GIANT leap forward with the introduction of our formal medical and wellness advisory board. Some of the world’s leading medical and nutrition experts have joined forces with Rouxbe to pair food and cooking with science and nutrition.

“Food can be an extremely powerful tool in preventing, managing, and even reversing some of the world’s most prevalent diseases. As physicians, we can make dietary recommendations but few patients actually know how to cook the ingredients we prescribe. Rouxbe brings the missing ingredient to the table,” says Dr. Scott Stoll.

Coming in early 2014, Rouxbe will be releasing a new series of condition-specific cooking courses that physicians can prescribe to their patients. Patients (and anyone looking to improve their health) can follow the guidance of expert chefs and physicians to cook and eat their way to better health.

Welcome to all of our new advisory board members. We are deeply honored to have you join our team.

Best Regards,

The Rouxbe Team.

p.s. Please note, we are still actively seeking new advisors to expand our team, including a leading medical / nutrition expert(s) in woman’s health and a registered dietician(s). Preference will go to candidates with clinical research background and to those who believe passionately that food is one of the most powerful preventative and prescriptive forms of medicine.

Professional Culinary Schools Supplement Face-to-Face Instruction with Online Education from Rouxbe

Students Using Rouxbe In Class

Vancouver, Canada Thursday, July 11, 2013

Rouxbe is pleased to announce agreements with three professional culinary schools—Cascade Culinary Institute (CCI), Oregon Culinary Institute and Culinary Institute of Charleston.

All three schools will begin with a small cohort of students, with Oregon Culinary Institute and Culinary Institute of Charleston set to expand the program to all their students in fall 2013.

Gene Fritz, Director of CCI, says, “We are excited to enhance the student learning experience by leveraging this high quality online platform. Truly, the partnership between Rouxbe and CCI will provide another opportunity to enhance competency-based learning for students while ensuring they are being exposed to techniques that are relevant to their future careers within the restaurant industry.”

Rouxbe has been an integrated part of the curriculum at Northwest Culinary Academy of Vancouver since 2005. Owner and culinary instructor Tony Minichiello reports that students who watch Rouxbe videos before a demonstration class get more out of their education.

Says Minichiello, “It allows them to have an idea of what they’ll see the next day…They get the technique from Rouxbe, and I can relate the industry information. The more [knowledge] a student brings with them to the table, the more I can do with them.”

“Rouxbe helps culinary schools create a reverse classroom, where students study the course material at home before, then come to class to get a refresher on key points. It primes them for higher-order skills in the classroom, because they’re not there simply to acquire knowledge, but rather to discuss, analyze, and actually apply what they’ve learned,” says Ken Rubin, Rouxbe’s Vice President of Culinary Training and chef educator with 10 years of experience running professional culinary schools.

The team at Rouxbe looks forward to working with these pioneering schools to further develop resources to enhance the level of culinary education available today.

Introduction to Learning Paths and an Update on Beta

by

One of the most frequent pieces of feedback we’ve received from our students over the years, is that you want a better sense of direction – a better way to navigate all of our current and future content. Consequently, we’ve been hard at work behind the scenes, building one of the biggest features for Rouxbe, to help further guide you to learn to cook, better: Learning Paths.

Introduction To Learning Paths

Firstly, we wanted to apologize for the delay in the updates about Learning Paths. Things are taking just a bit longer than originally planned, and therefore, our original expected release date has been pushed back to this Fall – only a couple of months away. However, Learning Paths is shaping up well and we’re really excited to release it to you. It has been a massive under taking, but it’s finally coming to a state where we can begin to introduce you to it.

The details behind Learning Paths are difficult to explain in words, so we thought it might be more helpful to start off this first explanatory post with a diagram. The illustration below shows how the new class structure will significantly enhance your learning experience. It visualizes how Learning Paths will enrich lessons, which will help you tackle a small set of skills and techniques, to a clearly structured and engaging path that enables you to master entire areas of cooking. All of this with a Rouxbe certificate at the end.

Check it out, tell us what you think. And yes, we love both good and constructive feedback so don’t be shy!

Questions Around Learning Paths

  • Who will have access to Learning Paths? All paid students of Rouxbe.
  • When will this launch? The new estimated date is sometime this Fall (I know, pretty vague, sorry, but I promise it will be worth the wait).

Beta Access Update

The next part of this update is for those eagerly waiting for details behind beta access. We’ve had a tremendous response to our open application for beta. Thanks to everyone that applied.

Starting today we will need to close off any new applications for beta. For those who have signed up to beta list already, you have not been forgotten. You will be receiving an email shortly with further details on your acceptance status.

Rouxbe for Life | A Message from Global Giving

by

Hi Everyone, we just wanted to share this message we received from Global Giving (one of the projects that we support through Rouxbe for Life).

Dear Rouxbe Cooking School,

On behalf of the St. Vincent de Paul Nursery School & Rescue Center, I would like to thank you for your support of our organization.

St. Vincent’s provides life saving services to 100 orphans and vulnerable children and their families in Kibera through our nursery school and rescue center. We also provide a safety net for families in the community so that they are better able to continue caring for the children. Families come to us when they need help with medical services, food, shelter, school fees for older children and support for small businesses.

At a time when Kenya is experiencing a severe food crisis, our services our ever important to the families living in Kibera. The food that children receive at the nursery school are often their only meals of the day. And, we have ramped up our efforts to provide food baskets to a greater number of HIV affected families in the past few months to ensure that our families have adequate food to survive.

Your contribution helps us keep our doors open to the children and families we serve.

With gratitude (Asante Sana),

Lucy Kayiwa, Director & Christina Stellini, Resource Development Volunteer

Thanks to everyone for your support and contribution to our Engine of Contribution.

Have a great weekend.

Dawn
